1. Not everyone should build a custom home.
It takes an adventurous and visionary spirit to build a custom home. There is also a certain trust level that has to be placed in the builder… can he really see the end product when it just looks like sticks and stones to the average eye? Do you trust his taste and recommendations?
If you are easily stressed out and would rather see the black and white of what you’re getting from the beginning, then we recommend you find a home that is already for you to walk into, or have a track home builder assist you in this building process. A tract home builder will not deviate much from the plans on hand, thereby, you could see from a model exactly what you will end up with.
2. Advantages and disadvantages of building a custom home.
The disadvantage could be the feeling of being “at the builder/designer’s” mercy. There’s scary stories out there. And, a custom home takes longer than a tract home. Costs are harder to “tie down”, and there is a tendency to want to keep adding. But when you trust your builder’s integrity, creativity, and craftsmanship… then the sky’s the limit! It can be an exciting adventure of… “look what we did” and things just where you need them and want them.
